Did you know that less than 1 percent of the world’s freshwater is readily available for human use? The amount of water that’s safe for us to use is declining sharply. Most of this water goes to waste during regular, daily activities. Washing dishes, showering, flushing toilets, washing clothes, and watering yards are some of the common household activities that use the most water.

Here at Park Plaza Apartment Homes , we want to do all we can to be more eco-friendly and promote sustainable living—not just by preserving water, but also by reducing unnecessary waste. Here are three ways we live green at Park Plaza.

We Are Preserving Water

We are eco-friendly in the way we use water here on our property. To start, our property has drought-tolerant landscaping, which means we use plants, such as succulents, that don’t require much water. We have also replaced some grass and mulch areas with beautiful stone to reduce the areas that need watering. Where watering is needed, our drip irrigation system uses significantly less water than normal sprinkling systems.

We also reduce the water wasted in plumbing by using low-flow toilets , which use about 20 percent less water than regular toilets. That 20 percent may seem small, but each of these toilets can save up to a shocking 13,000 gallons of water per year!

We Are Reducing Paper and Plastic Waste

At Park Plaza, we also protect the environment by reducing paper and plastic waste. To cut down on plastic waste, a water bottle refill station has been located on the property in order to reduce waste from disposable plastic bottles.

We go paperless by doing everything—rent payments, service requests, applications, and notices—online. This has helped us not only to significantly reduce paper waste, but to provide a much more simple and convenient process for our residents!

We Are Encouraging Recycling

One of the most simple yet efficient ways to be more eco-friendly is to recycle. We highly encourage recycling to take place on our property! Recycling bins have been placed in our office for easy access for our staff and residents. Items you can recycle include plastic bottles and containers, empty cans, paper, and flattened cardboard. However, you cannot recycle food, liquid, plastic bags, plastic wrap, or cups with wax or plastic coating. 

Recycling can also be taken locally, right here in Santa Ana, at OC Recycling. This small change in habit can make a big difference for our planet.

We’re Excited to Announce Organic Waste Recycling!

Organic waste recycling will be coming soon to our local community, and we can’t wait to participate! This initiative will help keep millions of pounds of food waste out of landfills and turn them into compost and renewable natural gas.  We’ll keep you up to date as this program expands throughout the state.
